Peter Barden is a public affairs expert with over 20 years of corporate, political, nonprofit, finance and crisis communications experience. He has designed and directed integrated public affairs campaigns for Fortune 500 companies and nonprofits in the energy, defense, media, manufacturing, environmental and finance industries.
Prior to joining Rational360, Peter was a managing director at Mercury, a national public strategy firm, where he led media relations, crisis communications and grassroots advocacy campaigns for some of the firm’s top clients.
Previously, Peter was Senior Vice President of Public Governmental Affairs for the New York Power Authority, the largest state-owned utility in the nation, where he developed and executed complex communications efforts surrounding the construction and permitting of power plants in New York City, the federal relicensing of major hydroelectric plants in Upstate New York and the local and national media responses during the aftermath of the 2003 Northeast blackout.
Peter began his career in New York Republican politics where he served as Governor George Pataki's Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs, chief of staff to New York Senator Jim Wright, Director of the New York State Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee and as a communications coordinator in the New York State Assembly.
Peter also served as Managing Director in the corporate finance division of The Seaport Group, an investment firm in New York City where he focused on alternative energy, bio fuel, healthcare, and real estate projects.
Peter is a graduate of Colgate University. He served six years in the United States Army Reserves.
